Fluoride

Does my child need fluoride supplements?

Between the age of 6 and 16, some children may require fluoride supplements. Age, risk of developing dental decays and the amount of fluoride in your drinking water help your pediatric dentist to determine if your child needs fluoride supplements.

What is the best kind of toothpaste for my children?

Use toothpastes with fluoride and approved by American Dental Association. Make sure your child is using only a pea-sized amount and is not swallowing it.

What is fluorosis?

Too much fluoride during the years when teeth are developing can cause defects in tooth enamel, called enamel fluorosis. This causes discoloration or brown markings on the teeth that mar the appearance of the teeth and sometimes make the enamel tough, pitted and hard to clean.
