Dental pulp is the tissue inside the tooth. It contains nerves and blood vessels and lies in a canal that runs through the tooth.

Why should an injured pulp be removed?
If the injured or diseased pulp is not removed, it can infect the tissues surrounding the root of the tooth, and ultimately damage the bone that attached the tooth to the jaw and then the tooth may have to be extracted.
